Have You Seen Elena? (5.23.18)

Has anyone seen Elena?
She was here and then gone, she left behind strands of her long hair
the razor she shaves her legs with
her boyfriend who goes to catholic school.
She left behind her name
Spanish heritage meets
Great grandma Ellen
She left her loving parents
the family dinners
and the kid gloves.
20/20 see it clearly
She’s left behind her vision
I can’t find Elena
So call her from the bleachers
See if you can catch her eye
From the bottom of the cheer pyramid.
She left behind
The dresses and skirts
That tighten and hurt
Gone are
The ace bandages that bind
As well as your own peace of mind
She’s in the closet
searching for something
always something.
Peeks her head out
She wears a nametag
a suggestion, a desire.
Perhaps she’ll change it tomorrow
but it doesn’t matter
It’s only a name tag
you can read
For I am she and she is they.
